RELEASE DATE: September 14, 2009 Newman's Own Foundation Makes Significant Contribution to TeacherDollars™ ProgramHARTFORD, CT — Newman’s Own Foundation is helping to significantly increase the amount of money teachers at Hartford Public Schools will have to purchase much-needed classroom supplies this Fall with their TeacherDollars™ cards. This is the second year in a row that Westport-based Newman’s Own Foundation has made a $25,000 donation to the TeacherDollars™ Program, which donates special-purpose debit cards to teachers in schools that have demonstrated marked improvement in the academic achievement of their students. “We are so appreciative of Newman’s Own Foundation for taking a leadership role in supporting education here in Hartford,” says Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Steven J. Adamowski. “The economy has put a tremendous strain on everyone over the past year, and their donation will have a considerable, positive impact on hundreds of teachers and students throughout Hartford Public Schools.” This year, over 400 teachers at 13 Hartford schools will receive specially-funded debit cards at the annual award event on September 21, 2009. “We are pleased to be able to support this very worthwhile program for the second year in a row,” said Robert Forrester, president and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “We are proud to be supporting so many deserving students and teachers as part of the Superintendent’s ambitious reform program.” In addition to the Newman’s Own Foundation grant to the TeacherDollars™ program, Newman’s Own, Inc. will provide winning teachers with 50 cases of popcorn and 525 cases of lemonade juice boxes for their students. “The TeacherDollars™ Program was created as a way to thank teachers for their dedication to student success by providing them the freedom to purchase the items they need for their classrooms,” notes Evolution Benefits chairman & CEO, Bob Patricelli. “And we couldn’t be where we are today without the help of all our sponsors and the local business community.”
