RELEASE DATE: June 8, 2009 Newman's Own Foundation Sponsors 'A Celebration of Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps'WESTPORT, CT — This evening, the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps celebrated the life and legacy of its founder, Paul Newman, at a star-studded performance in New York City. The concert – hosted by Joanne Woodward, Julia Roberts and Robert Redford – was underwritten by Newman’s Own Foundation with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the 11 camps in operation around the world. “Newman’s Own Foundation is proud to sponsor tonight’s celebration,” said Robert Forrester, president and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “Paul was especially committed to the thousands of children with life-threatening conditions served by the camps. This evening’s event will allow many more to enjoy the magic of camp free of charge.” The concert’s two and a half hour program incorporated memorable performances, a special guest appearance by former President Bill Clinton, inspiring stories and warm accolades to Paul. Benefit performers including celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma, classical violinist Joshua Bell, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, multi-talented artists Harry Connick, Jr. and Kristin Chenoweth, singer and songwriters Art Garfunkel and James Taylor, and the talented Hole in the Wall campers entertained an audience of over 2,700 supporters. Honoring Paul and his unending commitment to helping those less fortunate, President Clinton remembered Newman as “a good man in ways that went beyond. Paul thought doing was more important than talking.” The benefit, which also included an intimate gathering before the show and a celebratory after party at Alice Tully Hall raised over $2.5 million in support of the entire family of camps.
